It started with an email from the Virginia Apartment Management Association asking if we would like to participate in a community service project. They had partered with Moms On a Mission in Chesapeake, VA to provide Welcome Home Baskets for homeless people transitioning into permanent housing. Of course we said YES!

We bought the baskets and sent out the flyers to our residents and boy did they deliver. It’s not often you get to see the power of community service and supporting non-profits like Moms On a Mission, but we just did and it…was….AMAZING!

Community service is essential to building stronger, more supportive neighborhoods. It gives individuals the chance to give back, uplift others, and foster a sense of togetherness. One of the most impactful ways we can contribute is by supporting local non-profits that focus on helping people move out of homelessness and into a fresh start, such as Moms On a Mission in Virginia. Moms On a Mission is a dedicated non-profit in Chesapeake, VA that works tirelessly to support women and families transitioning out of homelessness. They provide resources, mentorship, and essential supplies to help individuals navigate the often overwhelming process of moving into a new home. Their goal is to empower these individuals by giving them the tools and support necessary to thrive in their new environments. The organization’s heartwarming efforts provide much more than material aid; they offer hope, encouragement, and the reassurance that the community cares.

One of Moms On a Mission’s most notable initiatives is their Welcome Home Baskets program. These baskets are filled with everyday essentials that help individuals and families establish their new homes. The baskets typically include items like towels, bedding, kitchenware, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene products. For someone who has recently secured stable housing, receiving a Welcome Home Basket can make all the difference in feeling comfortable and settled in their new space. It’s a small gesture that carries a big impact, symbolizing a fresh start and a caring community standing behind them.

This month, the team at Boyd Homes, along with residents from Nexus and Marcella at Town Center through their membership with the Virginia Apartment Management Association, partnered with Moms On A Mission and came together in an incredible way. Boyd Homes and their communities donated a truckload of items for the Welcome Home Baskets, an amazing outpouring of generosity. Boyd Homes team members then attended the event where donations were sorted and organized to fill an entire storage unit!

We extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated items—your kindness is truly inspiring! Through your generosity, you’ve not only filled baskets with essential goods but also filled hearts with hope and optimism for the future. If you’d like to get involved, consider donating items, organizing a drive, or volunteering your time. Together, we can continue to support Moms On a Mission and other local non-profits who are making a meaningful difference in our community.
